Singapore - MoC with Japan on Mutual Recognition of IoT Cybersecurity Schemes

Recently, the Cyber Security Agency (CSA) of Singapore and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) of Japan signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) on mutual recognition of their IoT cybersecurity labelling schemes - CLS and JC STAR. The MoC will take effect on 1st June 2026. This mutual agreement will apply to smart devices such as smart home assistants, home automation and alarm systems, and IoT gateways and hubs that connect multiple devices. It allows manufacturers to apply for the other country's labelling scheme through a streamlined process.

Japan becomes the fifth nation with such arrangement after Finland, Germany, South Korea and UK.
