Chile - Progress in D2D Services

On 26th November 2025, the Subsecretaría de Telecomunicaciones de Chile (SUBTEL) announced Entel and Starlink have jointly launched “Directto Device (D2D)” technology, making Chile the first country in Latin America to enable direct satellite-to-mobile connectivity.

The service currently supports only cross-operator SMS and covers most domestic areas as well as part of the territorial sea, primarily serving as an emergency communication solution for remote regions without signal coverage. In the future, progress will be made towards access to mobile data (Internet) and eventually to voice calls.
