Malaysia - Guidelines for Certification and Labelling of Battery Energy Storage

Recently, Alphabet learned that the Malaysian Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), together with the Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM), released the Guidelines for Certification and Labelling of Battery Energy Storage.

This Guideline establishes the specific standards and requirements applicable to the Battery Energy Storage (BES), including but not limited to Lithium-ion batteries, Lead-acid batteries, Nickel-based batteries, and other emerging battery technologies. Currently, the certification requirement applies only to aforementioned battery productsimported separately into Malaysia.

BES products can be certified under Type 5 (Product Certification Scheme) or Type 1B (Batch Certification Scheme). SIRIM Security Label must be purchased from SIRIM and affixed to the approved products.

The effective date of the Guidelines is not officially announced yet. Alphabet is closely monitoring the developments and will provide any update once it is available.
