South Korea - Public Consultation – Draft Technical Standards for Charging and Data Transmission Methods for Broadcasting and Communication Equipment

Recently, the Ministry of Science and ICT of South Korea (MSIT) launched a public consultation on draft Technical Standards for Charging and Data Transmission Methods for Broadcasting and Communication Equipment, including Mobile and Smart Devices.

The draft standards apply to the wireless broadcasting and communication equipment, including mobile and smart devices, that are charged by wired methods or that simultaneously charge and transmit data by wired methods and fall under any of the following categories. Such equipment must be equipped with a USB Type-C receptacle connector as shown in the draft standards.

2.    Tablet

3.    Digital Camera

4.    Headphones

5.    Headset

6.    Portable Video Game Console

7.    Portable Speaker

8.    E-book Reader

9.    Keyboard

10.   Mouse

11.   Portable Navigation Device

12.   Earphones

13.   Laptop

The draft standards shall come into effect on 14th February 2025. However, the requirement of USB Type-C for laptops will become mandatory from 1st April 2026.
