Singapore - Extension of Energy Efficiency Requirements  to Self-Imported Products

On 7th April 2026, the National Environment Agency (NEA) published Energy Conservation (Amendment) Act 2026 to extend the requirements of Mandatory Energy Labelling Scheme (MELS) and Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) to cover Regulated Goods imported for own use by enterprises and individuals.

Following the amendment, Regulated Goods including air-conditioners, single-phase refrigerators, clothes dryers, single-phase televisions (with in-built TV tuner), water heaters, motors and commercial storage refrigerators will be required to be registered and comply with applicable energy efficiency requirements prior to import. Non-compliant products will be considered prohibited imports.

The amendment is expected to be adopted in the second quarter of 2026 and is scheduled to enter into force in July 2026.
