Brazil - Cancellation of the 450MHz Spectrum Auction Plan

On 1st April 2026, the Board of National Telecommunications Agency of Brazil (ANATEL) unanimously decided to remove the 450 MHz band from the spectrum auction plan, and simultaneously withdraw the topic from the 2025–2026 Regulatory Agenda.

The cancellation was based on recent technical studies, which revealed the absence of a mobile device ecosystem compatible with the 450 MHz band, especially cell phones capable of operating on a large scale.

According to the document, there is low global availability of devices compatible with the so-called Band 31, in addition to the lack of certified terminals in Brazil. Therefore, following its assessment, ANATEL concluded that the 450 MHz band is not yet suitable for commercial deployment at this stage.
