Algeria - New Regulations for Type Approval

On 23rd February 2026, the Algerian government issued Executive Decree No.26-97 of 12 Chaâbane 1447, formally establishing the conditions and procedures for Type Approval of telecommunication equipment. Key points are as below:

1.      Type approval applications shall be submitted via online platform;

2.      The certificate validity will be extended from 3 years to 5 years;

3.      Equipment of the same model and country of origin shall be certified only once.

4.      GSMA TAC is required for the application of cellular equipment.

5.      A standardized labeling style has been adopted; all approved products must be labeled according to the prescribed format before importation. It can be placed in the user manual or packaging for the devices with size restriction;

6.      If the technical standard on which the approval is based is repealed, the certificate shall automatically become invalid, and the relevant regulatory agency will publish a notice of invalidation on its website.

7.      Products temporarily imported for the following purposes may exempt from Type Approval:

－   Imported for professional use; for scientific, educational, and sporting purposes; for humanitarian purposes;

－   Imported for related commercial activities, such as exhibitions and testing; for tourism promotion;

－   Imported as part of a production operation;

8.      This decree also repeals the RFID/2012 regulations.

9.      The existing certificates remain valid until their expiry date. Applications submitted but not yet completed before the publication date of this decree will still be processed according to the current procedures.
