Bahrain - Public Consultation - Updates to Fixed P-P Links and P-MP Systems

Recently, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Bahrain (TRA) launched a public consultation, proposing updates to its regulatory framework for Fixed Point-to-Point (P-P) and Point-to-Multipoint(P-MP) wireless systems, which are widely used for backhaul connections between telecom sites as well as for Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) broadband services. Main amendments are as below:

1.Add a new Annex 3 formally identifying IMT bands within the Fixed Service allocation (6.425-7.125 GHz, 24.25-27.5 GHz, 37-43.5GHz) and specifying frequency ranges where new assignments are prohibited (6.425-7.125 GHz and 39.5-40.5 GHz).

2.Revise Annex 1 (Radio-Frequency Channel Arrangements) and Annex 2 (Minimum Path Lengths) to reflect updated ITU Recommendations and national standards.

3.Introduce updated technical requirements by incorporating ITU, ETSI, and 3GPP standards and identifying high-frequency bands (31.8-33.4 GHz, 37-40 GHz, 40.5-43.5 GHz, 51.4-52.6 GHz, 55.78-59 GHz and 64-66 GHz) suitable for high-density fixed services.

4.Allow certain fixed wireless systems operating in 57-66GHz to use low power equipment to operate without a license, subject to common technical conditions.

5.Encourages the use of systems and antennas that comply with ETSI EN 302 326-1 or relevant 3GPP specifications.
