India - Migration to IS/IEC 62368: Part 1: 2023

Further to the newsletter Alphabet regulatory team issued on 12th August 2025, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of India (MeitY) published a notification on 29th October 2025 announcing the Migration to IS/IEC 62368 Part 1: 2023 from IS 13252: Part 1: 2010 and IS 616: 2017. The key points are as follows:

1.     IS/IEC 62368 Part 1: 2023 replaces IS 13252 Part 1:2010 and IS 616:2017.

2.     A new entry, Serial No. 65 – Extended Reality Products (Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, Mixed Reality etc.), has been added to the Schedule of the “Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirement of Compulsory Registration) Order, 2021”, and is now required to comply with IS/IEC 62368 Part 1:2023.

3.     For goods specified at Serial No 65, the period of concurrent running for standards IS 13252 Part 1: 2010 and IS 616: 2017 with IS/IEC 62368 Part 1: 2023 shall be permitted until 1st May 2026.

4.     For all other goods mentioned above, the period of concurrent running for standards IS 13252 Part 1: 2010 and IS 616: 2017 with IS/IEC 62368 Part 1: 2023 shall be permitted until 1st November 2028. After this date, IS 13252: Part 1: 2010 and IS 616:2017 shall stand withdrawn.
